I draw from various modalities and frameworks to guide our work. Relational Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, intersectional feminism and anti-oppression are the basis of my approach.
Some of these terms may be unfamiliar to you and that is more than okay. What it means is that our work begins with creating a safe and supportive environment through empathy and attentive listening. I combine talk therapy and mindful awareness of the mind body connection to explore your concerns, develop a deeper understanding and cultivate the change you seek. This may be through helping you calm your nervous system, becoming aware of tension/holding patterns, working with strong emotions that have been suppressed or are overwhelming, working with limiting beliefs, or helping you to understand and trust your body’s cues more fully. I use a collaborative approach to create space for us to check in with each other throughout sessions.
I am aware of the profound impact that power, oppression, stigma and structural violence can have on our health and in shaping our lives. My practice is grounded in anti-racism, anti-oppression, harm reduction, and cultural competence. I am sex-positive and have experience supporting diverse relationship models such as open relationships, polyamory, and non-monogamy. My aim is to create a space that is accepting, empowering and has lots of room for exploration.
There are many factors involved in determining the length of our counselling work. It may be based on your goals, your current life circumstances, or your availability. I offer both short and long-term services and am happy to establish with you what will work best.
